New York State Police troopers were dispatched to a stretch of I-87 in Ardsley at approximately 2:39 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, where there was a report of a potential wrong-way driver on the interstate.

Investigators said that they located a vehicle being driven by Aldrin Gastelu Chuquihuac, who was driving in the opposite direction of travel on the interstate. During the subsequent traffic stop with Chuquihuac, troopers said that he was found to be intoxicated.

Chuquihuac was arrested and transported to the State Police barracks in Tarrytown, where it was determined his blood alcohol content was .22 percent. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent, reckless endangerment and several citations for vehicle and traffic violations.

Following his processing for the aggravated DWI, Chuquihuac was released and is due in court on Oct. 15 to answer the charges. Police noted that no injuries were reported as a result of the alleged wrong-way driving.
